YOUR TRUSTED VANCOUVER
HARDWOOD STAIRS SUPPLIER
Stairs link two different levels in your home and naturally draw the eye. Especially when you’ve invested in the rest of your home, it’s important to consider the visual impact of your stairs on the look of your property. When selecting materials, hardwood is a classic that will lend any space any air of elegance and style. Best of all, it will last decades – or even longer, and the traditional enemies of hardwood, like moisture, aren’t usually an issue on staircases.
We understand that installing a new floor in your home or building is a big, personal decision. Since opening our doors in 2005, Floors Depot has been proud to be the premier flooring services and products provider in the Greater Vancouver Area. Let our almost two decades’ of experience work for you so that you can focus on the next step of your renovation with peace of mind.
HARDWOOD STAIRS
A staircase is composed of many different parts. Each stair itself is composed of two – the riser and the tread (the part you walk on). Other parts include the railing and the balustrade (connects the railing with the stair). Depending on your house and where you’ll be installing the staircase, the exact parts you’ll use will differ. A staircase is built over a skeleton, which is a part of the basic structure of your home.
While hardwood is renowned for its appearance, another great advantage is longevity. Solid hardwood can be refinished as many as ten or twelve times, restoring it to “like-new” and removing scratches, scuffs, and other marks. Engineered hardwood can be restored only one to two times, but provided your stairs are well cared for and don’t see excessive traffic, this can already be enough to last decades!
Hardwood of all kinds is also easy to keep clean of dust, debris, and hair. The main drawback of wood is its vulnerability to moisture, but this usually isn’t an issue on stairs. Hardwood is more expensive than some other materials, but you should always keep in mind its longevity- it may not be more expensive in the long run. Of course, you can always decrease the price by opting for engineered hardwood where possible.
HARDWOOD STAIRS INSTALLATIONS
Sold on hardwood for your stairs? Floors Depot is the perfect destination for finding the right product. Besides the convenience of browsing our catalogue from home, you’ll be working with a partner who has the expert knowledge to execute a perfect installation – as thousands of our clients can testify.
Our experienced professionals will not only bring an enormous catalogue of flooring samples to your doorstep, they have the expert knowledge that allows them to guide you in picking the perfect hardwood product for your stairs. Once you’ve made your selection, you can sit back and let us do the work.
Whether working with a skeleton in a new home or with your current stairs, we’ll first prep for the installation by removing any old product and making sure the site is ready. Once this is done, we’ll begin cutting and fitting the wood, before installing the risers, treads, and balustrades. Then we’ll finish the wood in the manner of your choosing.
We pride ourselves on our fast, efficient service – depending on the size of the stair, the job will typically take between a few days and a week.

ADVANTAGES OF HARDWOOD STAIRS
Besides being a beautiful, all-natural addition to any home, hardwood offers several key advantages that make them one of the best investments you can make in your property. Here are just a few of the many benefits of hardwood stairs:
Long lasting – Hardwood stairs can last decades, even over a century if they are properly maintained. Luckily with hardwood, cleaning and maintenance is easy and simple.
Refinish and Restore – If your hardwood does get scratched, scuffed, or is losing its lustre, it can be refinished to restore it to a ‘as new’ condition. Solid hardwood can be restored ten to twelve times; engineered hardwood one to two.
Nature’s Solution – Hardwood stairs are made from all-natural materials that are non-allergenic and can easily be kept clean of dust and other irritants. They’re also an excellent insulator – heat, cold, noise and other elements will not pass through them as easily as they do with other flooring types. Hardwood floors also provide comfort underfoot and keep your home warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
Nothing adds value to your home quite like a luxury hardwood stair. If you want to stand out from other properties in your area, a hardwood stair can be a great addition – you’ll enjoy it while you live in the property and benefit again when it comes time to put your home on the market. Beautiful hardwood is a great indication to a prospective buyer of the quality of the construction and care put into your home.

HARDWOOD FLOORING FAQ
How much will my hardwood flooring cost?
Every job will have its own unique cost, depending on the home and your needs and preferences as a customer. As a rough estimate, we typically quote in the range of $3 – $8 per square foot, but we would love to have an individual conversation about your requirements and provide you with a free quote.
Are engineered hardwood floors worth it?
Based on our intense positive feedback over the last two decades, the answer is “Yes!” as far as we’re concerned. The unique advantages of a product with the appearance of solid hardwood at a more affordable price, all while being equally or even more durable make it easy for us to recommend them. Ultimately the choice is yours, but we would love to convince you!
How long does hardwood last?
While this ultimately depends on the wear out on the floor and the level of care, thinner engineered hardwood floors are estimated to last 20-30 years, while thicker hardwood lasts closer to 40-80.
